Curriculum and Instruction Leadership Experience - Ankeny, Iowa
Part of engaging teachers in productive and meaningful learning opportunities is making sure that new instructional ideas, strategies and approaches are easily accessible, and explained in a way that the staff members undergoing the learning can see the practical application for the strategy or approach being addressed.
Below, are three examples of ways that I have met staff members needs when it came to addressing and implementing new approaches to instruction.
The first link is a website that I created to address the three different types of differentiation. In this website, I created a "one-stop shop" approach for staff members to easily locate and address questions they have about content, process and product differentiation. The website continued to evolve, and is now used to house materials for staff when it comes to quality research based curriculum, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, pre-assessment strategies, and best practices in grading and assessment work.
The second link is a video from a conference that I presented at for the Heartland Area Education Agency on the use of E-Books in the classroom. As a way to help staff members from around the entire Des Moines region better understand how to use technology purposefully in the classroom, Southview Middle School's media center specialist and I collaborated together to create a dynamic presentation in which we explored the use of E-Books in a middle school classroom. This presentation showed staff members how to use technology in the classroom as a tool for delivering quality, research based instruction.

Recently, I had the opportunity to present at an Iowa Talented and Gifted Conference around best practices in education. As an instructional leader in my district, I took the standards based practices that our staff had recently implemented, and collaborated with other leaders in the district and planned a presentation answering some of the most common questions that come alongside standards based practices. Myself and several others presented at the conference, and provided dozens of teachers practical ways to begin implementing best grading practices in their classroom. The document attached below are several notes that myself and the other presenters used to guide us in our presentation.
